I have to say- I am totally digging this forum. We are coffee nuts- so the idea of staying on a coffee farm was part of the attraction for us (it was the only thing we bought on our trip). I have had no contact with the owners since leaving their property in May of 2007. Our nightmare would be to be in the thick of it all in town and we like it quiet- so maybe this type of place isn't for everyone. My husband I spent a very relaxing and romantic 10 days in the Jungle Cottage. Our worklives are nuts and we simply needed a retreat- we didn't want to see or hear other people for our entire trip. That's a really good way to put it- and we are the type of people who were interested in a farm. The best thing on that link you provided was by TypicallyTropical where he says "Honaunau is not an ideal place for a vacation unless you want to stay on a farm". We had a jeep and so were okay, but I would have serious reservations about a normal car (oddly on the way up you see cars and I just don't know how those people manage). I'd say you're actually right about the road- it's bad. There was a lava beach with turtles near by. It is above the highway and we could see the ocean about a mile down. Im new here, so forgive me if Im asking any repeat questions Has anyone stayed at Bwana Bobs The cottages look pretty cool on their website, but Id like some first hand info. He now orders coffee sent to him on a regular monthly basis.Melelina- thanks for including that link- I hadn't seen it before, but it's interesting for sure! I was wondering if the road has ever been fixed going up to the cottages. It's definitely not the place for you if you are looking for all the fancy amenities, but the cottages are interesting and quaint, the grounds are spectacular in all their Hawaiian abundance and the other guests whom we have met are equally interesting. We are the type of folks who prefer a smaller, low key operation rather than a hotel or resort. My husband and I have stayed at these cottages three separate times.
